Shepherd’s Pie

This Shepherd’s Pie is a quick and easy meal to put together. This is perfect for a busy family and in many cases you will have lots of leftovers!!

Ingredients

  • Main Filling
  • 1 lb ground beef Buy Ground Beef Here
    You can use 2 lbs of ground beef to make a bigger dish

  • 2 Chopped Yellow Onions

  • 2 Diced Medium Sized Carrots

  • 2 Diced Celery Stalks

  • Gravy
  • 1/2 tsp Salt

  • 1/4 tsp paprika

  • Black Pepper to taste

  • 1 Garlic Clove Chopped

  • 2 tbsp Flour

  • 2 tbsp Tomato Paste

  • 1/3 cup Red Wine OR Additional Broth

  • 1 cup Beef Broth

  • 1 cup Green Peas

  • 1 tbsp Chopped Parsley

  • 1/2 tsp Chopped Thyme

  • 1 tsp Chopped Rosemary

  • Topping
  • 4 Cups Mashed Potatoes (I used a bag of instant mashed potatoes)

  • 1/2 cup Shredded Cheese (or however much you want to add)

Directions

  • Prep the Filling
  • Brown your hamburger and drain it.
  • Add your peas, chopped carrots, celery, and onions. Sautee until the veggies are all soft.
  • Add your beef and veggie filling to a 9×12 baking dish and set it to the side.
  • Make the Gravy
  • Add salt, paprika, pepper, flour, herbs, garlic, broth, and tomato paste to the same pan pan. Stir constantly until all of your ingredients are mixed thoroughly. It will smell delicious!!
  • Pour your gravy on the top of your filling. You can mix it all together if you want. I usually do, but the choice is yours!
  • Top it off
  • Make your mashed potatoes.
  • Add your mashed potatoes in a layer over the top of your filling. Be careful not to mix the two.
  • Add a layer of cheese on the top
  • Bake at 400 degrees for 20 min or until brown and bubbly
